Marlene and Robert Ruderman are healthy, independent older adults, but about two years ago, the couple moved into the Terraces of Baycrest retirement residence.

The Terraces of Baycrest is home to a vibrant community of older adults, providing them with the privacy of independent living along with high-quality care and other supportive services.

“We decided to move into a retirement home because, although we are currently in good health and able to manage well, we realize this will change,” says Marlene. “Our research showed that the Terraces is the best place for healthcare.”

The Terraces houses a 24-hour health centre, with nurses on duty around the clock and doctors on site Monday through Friday. As well, residents have access to social work, occupational therapy, pharmacy and nutritional guidance.

Programming at the Terraces was another major draw for the couple, says Marlene. “We also visited a few other homes and found the programming to be almost negligible compared to the Terraces!”

Marlene and Robert are active members of the Terraces community and keep very busy. They are part of the Terraces book club and regularly attend discussion groups, and they enjoy the fitness programming. As well, Robert plays bridge and is an active member of the Residents’ Council.
The couple feels very comfortable in their new home.

“Our apartment is very well organized, with lots of storage space. The meals are varied and healthy, and the staff is outstanding – well trained, and very friendly and helpful,” says Marlene. “The other residents are a wonderful lot – they are very welcoming and interesting.”
