Why the world needs Baycrest Centre

Baycrest has amassed more than a century of experience in care, education, research, and innovation in the field of brain health and aging. This expertise is needed more than ever by an aging population, given it is estimated that more than 1 million Canadians will be living with dementia by 2030.

  • Every 3.2 seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with dementia
  • Older adults can spend years waiting for long-term care
  • Seniors account for nearly half of all healthcare spending
  • 1 in four people 85+ have a form of dementia
  • It is estimated that another 199,000 long-term care beds will be needed by 2035, unless better supports are offered to help people age in place, at home
  • Expected annual cost to Canadians of caring for people with dementia is $20.8 billion by 2031

What is Baycrest Foundation?

Baycrest Foundation serves as the fundraising arm of the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care, helping to support the incredible range of activities and programming currently being offered. Thanks to our generous donors, the Foundation is able to meet the varied needs of Baycrest, where government funding does not cover them.

Your Impact in 2023-2024
