Innovation

Tremor Glove

Purpose

To be a global leader in the field of aging and brain health, driving key scientific advances to better prevent, detect, and treat dementia and other neurological disorders.

Baycrest Innovation Office

Outputs

Installation of Obie game systems for each “neighbourhood” in the Baycrest Terraces, 5 Ambient Activity interactive devices, tech literacy training for older adults, development of a Canadian Caregiver Assessment and Resources Tool (C-CART), and the Baycrest@Home platform.

Outcomes

Activities engage and stimulate residents and patients; tech literacy training empowers older adults to connect with others and find resources they need; C-CART helps caregivers find areas where they are doing well and areas where they need support. The online assessment will link them to appropriate types of local/provincial/national resources, leading to tailored, evidence-based information. Baycrest@Home brings support, recreational programming, and clinical expertise directly into people’s homes to help more individuals age in place.

Learnings

Finding innovative new ways to support our patients, residents, and their families is a priority at Baycrest. Especially for caregivers, there is often a lack of support, so we continue to find resources that will help bridge this gap and improve care for their loved ones and themselves.

Centre for Aging and Brain Health Innovation (CABHI)

Outputs

Community of Innovation Podcast; 5th Annual Summit “Daring to Disrupt: Reimaging the Aging Experience” with 20 speakers, over 1,350 attendees, 66 exhibiters from around the world; 528 projects launched; 415 unique solutions supported; $185M un funding directed toward advancing innovative projects.

Outcomes

Ensuring creators can develop, disseminate, scale, and promote promising innovation for brain health and aging to improve quality of life.

Learnings

Aging at home and support for caregivers are key priorities for innovation, and we continue to seek out and support emerging solutions to address these needs.
