Examples of equipment purchases include: a portable ultrasound machine, 10 sleeper chairs, iPads for records access, pivot transfer disc, stethoscopes, bariatric beds and mattresses, beds and mattresses for hospital and long-term care home, 20 low-wheeled walkers, 7 CADD pumps, 18 nursing station chairs, 4 PocketTalkers, 14 chairs with wheels, 2 portable O2 monitors, 8 rollators, 8 Hoyer lifts & slings for moving patients from beds to chairs.

Outcomes

Increased mobility, easier accessibility during care, reduced risk of injury for patient or healthcare provider.

Learnings

We continue to evaluate our equipment and facilities to ensure we have the right tools to maintain a high-level of care throughout our entire campus.

RealTime Location System

Outputs

Installation of building-wide multimillion-dollar system was completed in long-term care home in January 2024 to replace outdated nurse call & WanderGuard in long-term care home.

Outcomes

Increased patient safety and enhanced nurse response time.

Learnings

Our previous call bell system was outdated and did not provide the same immediate data that this new system allows for. We continue to innovate where possible to ensure our patients are receiving top-tier care.

Memory Care floor

Outputs

15 suites, either 5:1 or 2:1 staff to patient ratio depending on time of day.

Outcomes

Recently renovated, we are providing intimate and highly customized care programs that have produced dramatic results, as featured in the Toronto Star.

Learnings

We continue to strive to have a more accessible database for users of all ages.

Training

Outputs

89% of students recommend Baycrest as a placement, 18 academic partnerships, 361 tele-education events, 256 clinical teaching rounds, 105 continuing education events, 29 presentations & publications.

Outcomes

We are focusing on creating strong collaborations with higher education institutions and have developed a positive reputation as a placement organization.

Learnings

Baycrest has been trialing our Possibilities model on the Memory Care floor to showcase the difference intimate and personalized care can make in moderate to late-stage dementia. The benefit is clear and we hope to be able to scale this project in the coming years.
