Alpha Omega: Mobilizing to help older adults
Older adults are the fastest growing patient population and highly vulnerable to oral disease. Many are physically and medically unable to access care.
The Alpha Omega Dental Centre at Baycrest fills a void in comprehensive services tailored for this demographic. It is a state-of-the-art centre for evidence-based geriatric dentistry and a leading training centre, affiliated with the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry.
Creating a beautiful space that shows we care
The Alpha Omega Dental Centre provides a welcoming environment - modern and bright with light interior colour tones, ergonomic furniture, striking fixtures and paintings from the Baycrest art collection. It is fully accessible with an open-concept front desk. The centre includes:
- 4 large private operatories
- 2 wheelchair lifts
- lab and sterilization facilities
- a comprehensive imaging suite
- a patient friendly consultation space for family members
Making a difference in our community
The Alpha Omega Dental Centre at Baycrest is open to adults who live in the community, at Baycrest, other long-term care homes, assisted living residences and hospitals. It treats close to 1,500 patients per year.
What makes us unique is our focus and experience in caring for people who have complex medical conditions, frailty, physical challenges or cognitive difficulties such as dementia.
The centre draws clients from within Baycrest and accepts referrals from long-term care homes, assisted living residences, hospitals and dentists unable to adequately care for this population. It improves the capacity of all dentists to care for the geriatric population by:
- Providing consultative support to dentists in the community
- Conducting research and publishing findings
- Accepting patients who cannot be accommodated in general practice

Support the Oral Health Fund for Holocaust Survivors
The number of Holocaust survivors is dwindling. We are entering the final stages of a period when it will be possible to make their lives as pleasant and comfortable as possible. This includes giving them access to care at the Alpha Omega Dental Centre.
On behalf of Holocaust survivors who need dental care, please consider giving to the Oral Health Fund for Holocaust Survivors, providing treatment at our Alpha Omega Dental Centre for Geriatric Care.
