The Baycrest Foundation announces the launch of its inaugural A Walk for the Ages fundraising event on Sunday, September 19 from 8:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Canada’s Wonderland. Bringing generations together to raise awareness and funds in support of Baycrest’s ongoing quest to defeat dementia, A Walk for the Ages encourages participants to come together to fundraise and walk 2.5 km or 5 km at one of the most exhilarating collections of rides and coasters in a North American theme park.

Upon completion of the walk, participants will receive access to the park’s rides and attractions for the remainder of the day. To register or donate to A Walk for the Ages, please visit awalkfortheages.ca.

“Research has shown that exercise is just one of the many steps adults can take now to reduce their risk of dementia,” says Josh Cooper, President and CEO of the Baycrest Foundation. “The benefits of exercise, among other strategies, is just one area of research being explored by Baycrest’s scientists to help Canadians defeat dementia.”

The Baycrest Foundation is also proud to announce that Marvin Gord, a 100-year-old Canadian veteran and beloved Baycrest supporter, will walk alongside friends and family at A Walk for the Ages on September 19. With strong familial connections to Baycrest, Marvin has participated in several initiatives with the organization, including Marvin’s Million, The Brain Project and two brain research studies. He hopes that his efforts will inspire others to walk with him in support of brain health and aging at this inaugural event.

“Walking every day has kept me active and healthy and helped me to reach over 100 years of age!” says Gord, who has long surpassed his original goal of one million steps. “Track and field was my sport in high school and it’s important to keep on moving.”

Through monetary and in-kind donations of products and services, A Walk for the Ages sponsors play an integral part in the event and are vital to its success. Official sponsors of A Walk for the Ages include: Branded Cities, Goldhar & Associates, McCarthy Tetrault, TORYS LLP, dentalcorp, Greenwin Corp., and Protective Knit by Athletic Knit. Visit our website for more information on how to become a sponsor of A Walk for the Ages.

Funds raised from A Walk for the Ages will go towards Baycrest’s most urgent needs, including specialized care, education, research, and innovation in the field of brain health and aging.
